Great Room - Living

The main living area is part of the great room.  The front door has sidelights and a transom window to allow light to enter the room from the east.  The 8' tall french doors on the west side provide large amounts of light, resulting in a bright, naturally lighted area.  The room is designed to be flexible allowing many possible arrangements of furniture and function, from a cozy area to sit with family and friends to large gatherings.

The focal point of the living area is the custom millwork, built-in fireplace and shelves.  The fireplace is fitted with gas logs operated by a remote control.  It produces a good amount of heat that is distributed throughout the great room by natural circulation aided by the design of the cathedral ceiling.  It quickly takes the chill off on those few cold mornings of winer.  A dedicated pocket above the mantle is wired for the TV.

The floor is engineered wood in Brazilian Cherry.  The varied color and detailed grain in this natural wood gives the room warmth and a sense of quality.  The cathedral ceiling ranges in height from 10 to 11 1/2 feet, providing an open and airy feeling.

As soon as guests walk through the front door, long-distant views across the marsh are readily apparent through the 5 French doors and glass panels along the rear of the room.  The large glass area and views make the room feel much larger, open, and bright.
