Owners normally enter the home from the 14th Street side of the house, using the garage door opener to access the garage and park their car out of the sun and weather. A small door leads from the garage to the outside at the bottom of a second staircase, on the right of the two-car garage leading to the large back porch. The roof overhang is 3 feet wide to provide rain protection for people climbing the stairs. This staircase is on the southwest side of the house, providing protection from fall storms that tend to bring northeast winds.
The brick driveway leading to the two-car garage adds additional off-street parking for guests, who can walk along a winding brick path toward the entry staircase. This drive provides additional off-street parking for guests. It is paved with fired clay bricks.
